How Does Hypnotherapy Work?
Though it is much too complicated to explain here, the essential tenets are as follows:
The central goal is to get the client into a state between waking and sleep in which the theta or beta brain waves are activated. This makes the subconscious, a region of the mind in charge of deeply seated thought patterns, behaviors and beliefs, easier to access.
To achieve this trance state Anik will use a series of Hypnotic relaxation techniques including but not limited to Breath Work, Therapeutic/Guided Imagery and Hypnotic suggestion (purposeful language geared towards restructuring). You will be in complete control, feel deeply relaxed and remember your experience.
In short, the best way to understand this process is to experience it.

Clearing Up Misconceptions About Hypnosis: What’s Real and What’s Hollywood (or just plain unethical)?
- You can not be forced to do anything against your will nor would Anik want you to experience anything you are uncomfortable with. Your mind will protect itself & Anik will always respect your boundaries.
- When a Stage Hypnotist works with an audience member that person has to be willing to do anything they are asked. So when they chose to do something silly its because they want to! They may want to try something new, are just plain curious, want to disprove the hypnotist, or want an exciting story to tell friends or family about. Stage Hypnotists usually have a lower level of training & education than Hypnotherapists do. As performers they are not required to be certified by their state.
- Age Regression work for trauma (remembering a traumatic event/s from your past), is now considered outdated. It is no longer used for this specific issue, as it is thought in some cases to reinforce trauma &/or stimulate PTSD. There is also a risk of having what’s known as a, ”False Memory”. This means that your mind is so powerful & imaginative while under hypnosis that it can create an event which never actually occurred. The good news is that there are a myriad of other clinical Hypnotherapy techniques which successfully rewire the brain out of fight or flight response, and help to release painful experiences & emotions. If someone does offer Age Regression for trauma recall (vastly different from past life regression) beware that what they are doing is not considered ethical and may prove harmful to you.
- You will remember everything you have experienced.
- Anik will not be waving a pocket watch or any other moving object in front of your face.
- Nothing that you tell Anik while under Hypnosis can be used as evidence in a court of law.
- Everything discussed will remain confidential.
Can I Bring my Partner, Family Member or Friend Into the Room During My Session? Can I Be There With My Child During Their Session?
No, anyone present in the room is just as susceptible to entering the state of Hypnosis as the client is, as they will also be following along. In other words, observers often go under Hypnosis while watching & listening to Anik work. Also worth noting is the fact that people often reveal more to their Hypnotherapist when others aren’t present. Privacy is a very important element of therapy. One on one sessions also foster a healthy amount of independence.
However Anik can sit down & brief you during the last 10 minutes of the session to help you feel more comfortable with your loved one’s experience. If the discussion extends beyond the appointment time you will be charged an additional expense (overtime).
Parents of Children (under the age of 18) or Caregivers of Mentally Handicapped Individuals: Anik will always fill you in on their progress though some details older children or impaired adults share may remain private due to Client Confidentiality, unless they are a danger to themselves or others, or a crime has been committed.
Partners, Family Members or Friends of Adult Clients: Due to Client Confidentiality Anik will only able to share details of your loved one’s session if they give her permission to do so. And yes, this applies even if you are the person paying for the session.
